My mom was a  Day Of The Dead Silver Skull T-Shirt teacher until I was 18, and she taught for about 5 years before that as well. Every year we would go to the dollar tree and buy as many school supplies as we could afford (we were poor, but living happily). She worked in a very poor district and most students had one or two pencils and maybe a few pens. It was always really nice to be able to pick out the fun markers and notebooks even though I didnt get to use them. Honestly did not realize this was such an Day Of The Dead Sugar Skull With Rose T-Shirt issue in the UK. I know here in the US it is a big problem, every teacher I know has to buy their own supplies. Our teachers and kids deserve so much better.You're right, they do deserve better and it's a role that is so unappreciated. This is in the UK, this is an issue that should not exist. Honestly did not realize this was such an issue in the UK.
