Art of war is a difficult read. First, it's translated from Chinese, but also it's from a different era with different pacing than we're used to in modern writing. It is definitely interesting and worth the effort though. It is undoubtedly philosophical, which directly leads to the distracted reading state I described above, at least for me. I remember reading the 9th century book 1001 Arabian Nights (where the story of Aladdin comes from) and while it was very interesting, it was very simplistic. Compared to say Don Quixote, written about 600 years later, the complexity and density of the language is very noticeable, though some of the differences can be attributed to the particular translation. I resonate with this haha. Sometimes, too, when the part I'm reading is particularly interesting and thought-provoking, I'll just sit back and think about the concepts portrayed. It's like my mind is actively creating fanfic or fan-art of sorts while reading. It's not something I dislike, but I've been caught just staring at a single page for nearly an hour, just gazing into my headspace lmao.
